A selection of local farmers has been recognised for their vital contributions to sustaining livelihoods in the agricultural sector at the annual Region Four Farmers’ Appreciation Day 2026.
The event recently took place at the TVET School in Anse Ger, Micoud, under the theme “Celebrating Those Who Grow Our Future.”
This annual observance serves as an essential platform to honour the dedication, resilience, and invaluable contributions of farmers to Saint Lucia’s food security.
Region Four, comprising several productive farming communities, is instrumental in the cultivation of fruits, vegetables, root crops, livestock, and other agricultural commodities that are crucial for both local consumption and economic activity.
The event brought together farmers, agricultural stakeholders, sponsors, extension officers, representatives from partner organizations, and government officials to acknowledge the agricultural community’s vital role in sustaining livelihoods, strengthening rural economies, and supporting national development. Participants discussed the challenges and opportunities facing the sector, including climate change, market access, technological advancement, and the need to attract younger generations to agriculture.

The programme featured inspiring testimonials from farmers, presentations by agricultural professionals, remarks from stakeholders, and an awards ceremony recognising individuals and groups who have demonstrated excellence, leadership, innovation, and long-standing service in the agricultural sector. The celebration also underscored the significance of value-added production, climate-smart agriculture, and continuous learning as key drivers for a resilient and competitive agricultural industry.
As Saint Lucia continues to enhance its food security agenda, the Department of Agriculture encourages citizens, communities, and private sector partners to support local farmers by purchasing locally grown produce, investing in agricultural development, and embracing the national call to grow what we eat and eat what we grow.
The ministry emphasises: “Together, we can build a more resilient, sustainable, and food-secure future for generations to come.”
