A group of determined young Saint Lucian professionals are proud to announce the launch of the island’s inaugural Kids Summerfest event.
Scheduled for August 16 at the National Cultural Centre Grounds, this event promises to significantly enrich the summer vacation experience for children.
Organized by Occasions St Lucia and Azari’s Party Rentals, Kids Summerfest aims to go beyond mere entertainment.
“This isn’t just a festival for children; it’s a platform addressing critical issues such as bullying awareness, promoting positive family environments, child safety, and empowerment,” asserts Nicole Phillips Edward, the main organizer.
With the ambition to create an impactful experience, Edward emphasizes the need for change in how children’s events are traditionally approached.
“We wanted something that transcends the usual festivities,” she states.
While many events focus on fun activities like bounce houses and trampolines, Kids Summerfest will confront pressing issues that directly affect children.
Understanding the complexities of children’s behavior, Edward advocates for a deeper look into their backgrounds. “Sometimes, we witness disruptive behavior at school, but the underlying reasons often remain unknown,” she comments.
Home life plays a crucial role, and she urges parents to be mindful of their communication styles, as they significantly impact their children.
At the heart of Kids Summerfest is the fusion of entertainment and education. Offering games, attractions, bounce houses, and trampolines, the event also introduces interactive family experiences that encourage meaningful engagement.
Parents will have the opportunity to bond with their children through various activities, fostering stronger family connections. The event will feature performances that resonate with the challenges children face today, including skits and dances that address bullying, empowerment, and safety.
These performances aim to instill positive behavior both at home and in school, highlighting how family dynamics shape a child’s development.
In addition to the fun, Kids Summerfest will provide valuable resources for parents. Representatives from financial institutions and insurance companies, including Sagicor, will be on-site to offer guidance.
Furthermore, the Ministry for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) is collaborating with the organizers to establish a quiet area where children can take breaks from the activities and regroup.
