A six-member team from Saint Lucia, led by the Saint Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC), departed the island on Tuesday, November 4, to assist with hurricane recovery efforts in Jamaica following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.
The team, under the leadership of LUCELEC Line Construction Supervisor Justin Small, includes linemen Nerie Joseph, Ricky Hippolyte, and John Daniel, along with contractors Tyron Mangal and Sam Velinor. They will spend approximately six weeks in Jamaica, lending their expertise to help restore power and rebuild critical energy infrastructure.

Their mission is part of the CARILEC Disaster Assistance Programme (CDAP), a regional initiative that promotes collaboration among Caribbean utilities in times of crisis.
LUCELEC Managing Director Gilroy Pultie was present at the company’s Cul de Sac headquarters to see the team off and reaffirmed LUCELEC’s commitment to regional solidarity and mutual support.

“As small islands in the region, we are exposed to more frequent and more powerful storms,” Mr. Pultie stated. “There’s no way we would have the resources to respond as quickly as people expect, so we must help each other. LUCELEC is always prepared to raise our hands to help. We pray for the best for our team and for Jamaica in a very quick recovery and restoration.”
LUCELEC’s continued participation in such regional relief efforts highlights the company’s dedication to resilience and unity within the Caribbean energy sector.

As Jamaica begins the process of rebuilding, Saint Lucia stands in solidarity—proving that together, the Caribbean can weather any storm.
