Carnival Planning & Management Committee Not Happy

The just concluded Carnival Queen Pageant has reaped rave reviews from most who attended and viewed via television and social media. The glamorous event which was held at the Pavillion in Rodney Bay took place on Saturday July 5th.

The Carnival Planning and Management Committee, the body responsible for the event, says this year’s event has been marred by cyber bullying and threats levelled at the contestants and the organizers.

In past years, individuals who have been dissatisfied with the contest results have aired their views. However, organizers are disappointed that on this occasion the expression of displeasure has gotten exponentially worse.  Individuals have reportedly resorted to graphic cyber bullying, distasteful memes and actual threats prompting organizers to seek support from the police.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Committee Chelsa Jongue says the committee has attempted to quell the online bullying by turning of the comments option of the live feed only for contributors to find other means to deliver what has been described as unsavory messages. The PRO expressed her displeasure saying “it is heartbreaking that this has to be an area the committee has to deal with. The contestants and the committee have worked hard to put on a good show, and it is disrespectful to be treated in that manner”.

Miss Jongue recalls recent incidents of bottles being thrown at a crowned contestant by individuals dissatisfied with the results. The Committee PRO understands that fans routing for a particular contestant may be unhappy with a result but highlighted that abusive language or memes or mockery or threats have no place in the creative arts arena.

A security detail has been engaged and attached to the 2025 Carnival Queen.
