THE Saint Lucia Sports Academy (SLSA) emerged as champions of the Under-19 Secondary School / Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Football tournament, defeating the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) 2-1 in the final on December 17 at the Sab Sporting Facility.
Traylan Henry gave SLSA the lead in the 40th minute, just before halftime, and Justice Germaine added a second goal in the 60th minute, putting SLSA ahead 2-0.
Despite some tense moments, Bonne Innocent pulled one back for SALCC in the 77th minute. However, shortly thereafter, he missed a scoring opportunity that could have leveled the match.
With a narrow 2-1 lead, SLSA held on to secure the victory and lift the Under-19 championship trophy for the third consecutive year.
SLSA defeated Patricia D. James Secondary School in the semifinals before overpowering SALCC in the final.
In a remarkable achievement, SLSA swept all the awards during the presentation ceremony. The following honors were presented:
– Best Defender: Jerquan Joseph, Saint Lucia Sports Academy
– Best Goalkeeper: Nahiem Remy (who conceded only three goals), Saint Lucia Sports Academy
– Most Goals: Justice Germaine (11 goals), Saint Lucia Sports Academy
– MVP of the Finals: Justice Germaine, Saint Lucia Sports Academy
– Championship Trophy and Gold Medal: Saint Lucia Sports Academy
