Three teams have so far qualified for the semi-finals of the St Lucia Football Association [SLFA] Inc. Island Super Cup competition.
La Clery, the National U-20, and Vieux Fort North are into the semi-finals, having all completed their allotted eight preliminary round matches. The final preliminary rounds of the Super Cup are down to be completed shortly, before the eventual four title contenders, battle for the championship prize.
La Clery maintained its dominance in the competition to finish undefeated and top the league’s points table. On Wednesday, the suburban Castries side registered a comfortable 2-nil victory over Anse la Raye, at the Dennery Playing Field.
Prolific striker Andrus Remy set up the win with a brace, scoring in the 20th and 77th minutes.
And while the National U-20’s Keegan Caul leads the individual goal scoring with eight conversions; La Clery FC’s Andrus Remy and Jonathan Aliene follow closely with seven goals each. Dilan Lucien and Darrell Francis of Choiseul complete the top goal scorers list with five goals each.
Interestingly, it was the National U-20s that provided some of the stiffer opposition to La Clery in the preliminary rounds, but the North Castries team overcame their young opponents with a clinical 3-1 victory.
La Clery strode through triumphantly in these initial rounds of the contest to signal their intent, and it is now left to the other title-contenders to make a bid for a shot at the championship prize.
In Wednesday’s other double-header, at the Dennery Playing Field, Laborie nudged past South Castries 2 – 1, with goals from Jaheim Ferdinand and Jason Edwin in the 11th, and 32nd min respectively. Though South Castries had gone ahead with an early strike from Shawn Mathurin in the 2nd minute, Laborie stormed back to wrench the initiative.
The final matchup between Anse la Raye and Micoud will determine the fourth qualifier, to compete in the semi-finals of the Super Cup.
