SPFL Action Continues This Weekend

The SPFL season 2 is in full swing, and this weekend promises thrilling matchups.

Yesterday (July 4), in a Tier 2 match at the Mindoo Phillip Park {MPP}, Vieux Fort North faced off against the National Under-20 squad while Dennery played Mabouya Valley in Tier 1.

Today (Saturday), in the Premier League – Tier 1, the fixtures are as follows:

Soufriere vs South Castries – 6:00 p.m.
Vieux Fort South vs Central Castries – 8 p.m.

On Sunday, at the MPP, the matches in Tier 1 are:

Canaries vs Gros Islet – 6:00 p.m.
Choiseul vs La Clery – 8:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, in Tier 2, Anse La Raye dominated Babonneau with a convincing 3-0 victory, thanks to a hat-trick by Zidane Augustin, who scored at the 11th, 35th, and 75th minutes.

In another standout game, Laborie triumphed over Roseau 2-0, with Jaheim Ferdinand finding the net in the 38th minute and Demorville Montrope sealing the deal in the 90th minute.

On Tuesday, La Clery started the defense of their title in Tier 1 at Mindoo Phillip Park (MPP). La Clery went on to edge out Canaries 1-0, courtesy of a decisive goal from former national striker Andrus Remy. At 31 years old, Remy showcased his skill by weaving through the defense and slotting the ball home.

Moreover, Mabouya Valley delivered a commanding performance against Choiseul, winning 5-0 with a hat-trick from Maius Stanislaus. The ‘Valley guys’ are now at the top of the league’s table, leading on goal difference.

National midfielder Brandon Sandiford opened the scoring in the 24th minute, assisted by Stanislaus. Stanislaus then scored his first goal in the 42nd minute and added two more in the 49th and 68th minutes, while Alk Marquis rounded off the scoring with an 85th-minute goal.

A total of 80 matches are set to take place in this SPFL 2 season, conducted in a double round-robin format at 10 venues island-wide, ensuring fans enjoy maximum soccer action.

Following the initial matches in Tier 1, Mabouya Valley holds the top position, followed closely by Gros Islet, Central Castries, and La Clery. Dennery and Vieux Fort South played to a draw, leaving them with one point each.

However, Canaries, Soufriere, South Castries, and Choiseul have yet to secure a victory.
