“Women’s health is not one-size-fits-all. It’s not just about lab results or prescriptions. It’s about listening to your body, your story, your spirit.” Dr. Tanya Beaubrun

An evening of womanhood, wellness and wisdom. That is how Dr. Tanya Beaubrun described the viewing of the PBS film The M Factor. This documentary on women’s health dealt primarily with menopause and the midlife experience that women must navigate through.
The evening, which also included a question-and-answer session, welcomed the participation of other physicians. Cardiologist Dr. Mario Enrique Napoles Lizano who has performed over 250,000 cardiac scans and thousands of pacemaker procedures, was on hand to share knowledge. Neurologist Dr. Len Compton, Obstetrician/Gynecologist Dr. Yennys Castro Elena, and Cosmetic Surgeon Dr. Rohan Edward completed the medical cast.
Dr. Beaubrun highlighted that one of the evening’s main objectives was to commence a narrative change as it relates to menopause in the community. Dr. Tanya Beaubrun is a leading figure as it relates to women’s health on the island.
The evening also saw the launching of the RememberHer Programme, which aims to encourage women to revisit themselves, in a space where medicine meets meaning and where science meets soul.

The local physician says this is all necessary “because women’s health is not one-size-fits-all. It’s not just about lab results or prescriptions. It’s about listening to your body, your story, your spirit.” She continued, “That’s the heart of functional and integrative medicine. We look at the whole woman – her hormones, her history, her habits, her heartbreaks.” Dr. Beaubrun has been at the forefront of the women’s health issue for two decades, launching The Satya Centre which is reportedly the first functional and integrative medical clinic in the Caribbean. Dr. Beaubrun believes that women’s health is much more than just a topic. She insists that women have forgotten to take care of themselves because they are busy caring for everyone else. She said, “This work is sacred. And our health is sacred. And I believe that when women heal, we heal generations.”
The event was held at the Bougainvillea Conference Room at the Bay Gardens Hotel on Friday May 23rd.
Participants at the event were invited to look at the occasion, not as a film viewing, but rather the beginning of a movement.
