Police Commissioner Verne Garde has acknowledged the support from officers of the Royal St Lucia Police Force (RSLPF), the government, and citizens during his leadership over the past six months.

He is fully committed to serving as Commissioner of Police until March 2026.

“I will approach this role with the same vigour as I did before,”  Verne Garde stated at a media briefing yesterday.

He emphasised that despite facing challenges, the law enforcement unit will diligently uphold its responsibilities, noting, “This job is challenging; it’s not a walk in the park.”

He highlighted his extensive experience, which includes serving as Director of the National Security Department at the Bordelais Correctional Facility (BCF) and a tenure in the British Virgin Islands.

He firmly outlined the necessity of employing a “systematic approach” to meet the demands of the position.

Acknowledging the standard challenges, he asserted, “We will continue to align with the mission of the organization and accomplish our objectives.”

Over the last six months,  Verne Garde has developed a clear plan to enhance public understanding of the RSLPF’s goals.

He reported that the Force has successfully achieved “approximately 80% of that plan.”

Looking ahead, he stated definitively, “Our focus for the coming year is clear: supervision, oversight, and accountability. We have initiated several key actions and it is crucial that we effectively manage these elements to reach our desired outcomes.”
