A new multilingual news platform named Sun and Silk Communications Agency (SASCA) and its website sascaonline.com, were officially lunched on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
Coinciding with observance of International Journalists Day (IJD), the well-attended event took place at the Finance Administrative Centre at Pointe Seraphine in Castries and was hosted by the Saint Lucia-China Friendship Association (SLCFA).
It was addressed by Editor-in-Chief Earl Bousquet and Webmaster Casey ‘Omar’ Jerson, who gave insights into the platform’s history.
Bousquet, a veteran Caribbean journalist who is also President of the SLCFA, said the idea for the website arose during the 6th China-Latin America and Caribbean Region People-to-People Friendship Forum in Xi’an, China on October 15, 2024.
Representing the SLCFA, he said, he noted the website for the Latin America and Caribbean Federation of Friendship Associations with China (FALCARPC) is mainly in Spanish.
He promised to investigate the SLCFA establishing a multilingual platform highlighting China’s engagement across Latin America and the Caribbean and sharing information about Saint Lucia, the Caribbean and the wider world.
Bousquet said sascaonline.com was established in October 2025 — and 11 months later, it’s being published in 10 languages, with plans to add another 10, including the national Kweyol (creole) language shared with Haiti and several Caribbean Community (CARICOM) member-states and territories.
The Editor-in-Chief urged more Saint Lucians to make sascaonline.com their daily news platform, that also serves as a bridge between the Caribbean, Latin America, China and the Global South.
Jerson indicated the website takes a different approach to coverage of world developments, focusing on geopolitical matters affecting the Caribbean and the Global South.
He revealed that the platform is already accessing a global audience, having recorded 19,000 views from 10,000 visitors, with 16,000 views and 8,000 visitors recorded since January 2026.
Jerson also indicated Saint Lucia accounts for the largest share of the platform’s audience, followed by the USA, Canada and China.
The news platform has also been accessed in at-least 138 countries.
The launch was attended by members of the diplomatic corps and special invited guests, included former Governor General Dame Pearlette Louisy (GGE).
Addresses were delivered by Ambassador of Cuba to Saint Lucia Yenielys Vilma Reguiferos Linares, Ambassador of Venezuela to Saint Lucia Leiff Escalona and representative of the former Embassy of China in Saint Lucia Ji-Hua Zhou.
Recorded solidarity messages were also relayed from: President of the FALCARPC Julio Meneses, President of the Surinam-China Friendship Association Patrick Woei, President of the Barbados-Cuba Friendship Association DeLisle Worrell, journalist and friend of China in St. Vincent & The Grenadines Laura Dublin and Saint-Lucian-Chinese supporter based in Dubai, Sarah Xu.
Bousquet said sascaonline.com’s objective is to broaden the conversation, expand access to communication and give audiences another perspective on issues affecting the world.
The launching ceremony featured donation of several free gifts of Chinese origin, door prizes to lucky members of the audience and a special Plaque of Honour to Saint Lucia’s longest-serving Governor General, Dame Pearlette.
