This week, representatives from the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) were in Saint Lucia to promote Mas Domnik, the premier carnival spectacle of the ‘Nature Isle.’
Scheduled to take place on March 3 to 4, Monelle Alexis, DDA’s Communications and Public Relations Specialist stated that Mas Domnik is “an authentic celebration of music, arts, traditional and trendy displays… filled with excitement and vibrancy.”
“The real mas – Mas Dominik – is not just a carnival; it stirs your soul, ignites your spirit, and connects you to the unique colors and energy that only Dominica can deliver,” she affirmed, at the recent media launch.
The DDA’s publicist painted a vivid picture of a festival that would unfold in rhythmic unison with Jour Overt, traditional parades, multi-colored costumes, and street jump-ups.
“Mas Domnik is authentic to the core. What sets it apart is its authenticity – it’s the ‘real deal,’ steeped in a legacy that dates back to the 1700s. From the vibrant rhythms of Bouyon, Calypso, and steel-pan to traditional performances, Mas Domnik reflects Dominica’s rich cultural heritage,” Alexis asserted.
She added: “It’s where history and culture come alive, making every beat, every step, and every costume a testament to the island’s enduring spirit. Join us for the real mas and experience Dominica like never before.”
To facilitate travel to this extraordinary event, several regional airlines, including Martinique’s boat charter Express D’Isles, are offering affordable fares.
Sunrise Airways has partnered to ensure seamless travel for carnival revelers.
Colin Piper, a consultant for Sunrise Airways, detailed the travel arrangements available.
Since 2012, Sunrise Airways has provided reliable air service across the Northern Caribbean and beyond, including Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Cuba, and Miami.
After beginning operations in the sub-region in May 2024, Piper announced the expansion of their services to the Eastern Caribbean, having added two more islands in October, to currently serving six sub-regional states.
“Our mission in the sub-region is clear: to deliver seamless travel and convenient connections at affordable fares. Our One-Caribbean vision drives us to offer choice and accessibility for travelers through our aircraft and interline partners,” Piper asserted.
Sunrise Airways is offering special round-trip fare deals for travel between February and March, urging visitors to “book your flights early” to experience the pageantry and energy of events like the Carnival Queen Pageant, Calypso finals, and the highly anticipated Sunrise Breakfast Fete.
The event will feature an array of entertainment with regional performers, including Saint Lucia’s Shemmy J, Claudette Peters from Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica’s Triple K, and ‘Bouyon Boss’ Asa Bantan.
Furthermore, the airline is giving away complimentary airline tickets for two lucky winners to attend the Sunrise Airways Breakfast Fete, Dominica’s premier carnival event, on February 28.
