Bal Fini!

THERE is a favorite saying about having people “watching your back”, or “being there for you…” My Question is: Who is watching our backs?

But the answer might lie more in another Kweyol saying we can use here in this Kweyol Month, which is ‘Bal fini’, meaning ‘The party is over!’

As the world goes through its turmoil, who is checking for our people? Who is checking for our interest? Who will put the brakes on?

Who will make us understand, or teach us, or better still, make us aware of some of our pitfalls, especially those we don’t all see?

Things are not like they used to be and if we are not careful we may be caught unawares, or the consequences of our actions can lead us down a slippery path. We must become aware of what we eat, what vaccines that we take, what is good or not good for us, what is a good or bad decision, when to invest, or when to save money.

We need guidance, support, direction, advice, and instructions, because so-many of us don’t have a clue of what is on the horizon. So, few pay attention to world affairs or really understand what is going on, or the manipulating that is going on in the interest of development.

We are still being deceived by politicians, priests, educators, the press and sometimes our own family and friends. Trust is not easily found and deceit is second-nature to a lot of people.

Love is becoming extinct, care is hypothetical, the system is fraud and con-men and women form the greater part of our society. Scheme after scheme we confront on a daily basis. And wisdom does not come from education…

So, we now live in the unknown, facing the uncertainty of tomorrow and the dread of today.

There are more questions than answers, more theories than facts – and less leadership than followers.

We are still alive, but dead to reality; and we can’t decide where to turn and what direction we ought to follow.

As Brother George Odlum used to quote from his Shakespearean days and plays, “What a mangled web we weave when first we try to deceive…” (or something like that…)

Some will survive, yet many will perish because the path to success is not clear and the road is rough and the route is even more rocky and rough.

While we have been told that God is in charge of everything, it appears that man is in control of the Earth, there are no living prophets. There are no guides or manuals to follow to get to heaven safely.

We are all lost in the muddle, so the bottom line is: Everybody is on their own. What’s next? What is tomorrow’s forecast? Where do we hide or dodge the bullet?

The big questions are: Can we escape? Can we – or will we – survive the coming times?

Or, is it too late to concern ourselves with what most of us can’t change?

Do we remain programmed? Do we remain subservient? Do we or can we rebel? Or is this the beginning of the end…

The answer, like we used to say long-ago, “is blowing in the wind…” But we have to find the answers to our problems today, even if we have to look the wind in the face, because if we don’t, like we also used to say in days of old: Bal Fini!
