Voice of the Streets Warns of Situation Police Aren’t Ready For

A voice note which has been “forwarded many times” through Whatsapp messenger, is painting a very dark and morbid picture of situations in certain sectors of Saint Lucia.

The over four-minute-long recording warns of a potential uprising in communities if Government cannot address the needs of the people.  “You’ll think things are bad it’s not nowhere yet” the individual boldly claims, “tell the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force to get ready,” he further stated as he lamented that many people, himself included all know that “on the streets have more weapons than the police force.”

The fed-up recorder (angry from the years of Sir John’s government) conceded that the record-breaking homicide numbers could continue rising and citizens “had not seen anything yet as it’s about to go down.”

The “voice of the streets” believes that only criminal activities would prompt swift action and only then would the powers that be pay attention to his struggles, those around him, and that of the island. “Unless you don’t start burning couple things in Saint Lucia, burning vehicles, threatening some Ministers in Saint Lucia,” he stated, is the only time “they” will take heed.

During his tirade, he implored the government to do what is needed to ensure that the employment situation is managed properly as citizens needed to keep “food in their pantries and take care of their families”.

He also mentioned the difficulties that the youth in his community are facing with employment. Under the previous administration, he admitted to employing them but due to the change in government, it can’t be done since he has already had to change jobs multiple times.

“I just passed in the Marchand Boulevard and the fellas telling me straight they have bullets for their guns and no money to buy bread”, the irate recorder revealed while pointing out the ease of obtaining a firearm and ammunition and difficulties of finding gainful employment.

He ended the voice note warning that he can’t calm down the agitated, possibly armed youth and should things be left unchecked, it will present a situation that the island and its citizenry aren’t ready for.
