Saint Lucia Records 37 New COVID-19 Cases

PRESS RELEASE — The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs today Tuesday, October 12, 2021 confirms a total of thirty-seven (37) new cases of COVID-19. These cases were processed on Monday, October 11, 2021 at the Ezra Long Laboratory from a total of 238 samples which were collected between October 6 and October 11, 2021. This number of positive cases makes up 15.5% of all the samples processed on that date. These new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in- country to date to 12, 054.

The Ministry of Health also reports seven (7) new COVID-19 deaths. All these deaths occurred during the period September 17, 2021 to October 8, 2021. To date, the total number of COVID- 19 deaths in-country is 177 and the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is 54.

COVID-19 death #171 is a 80 year old female from the Vieux Fort district. COVID-19 death #172 is a 75 year old male of the Anse La Raye district. COVID-19 death #173 is a 89 year old female from the Dennery district. COVID-19 death #174 is a 79 year old female from the Micoud district. COVID-19 death #175 is a 65 year old male from the Micoud district. COVID- 19 death #176 is a 87 year old male from the Soufriere district. COVID-19 death #177 is a 84 year old from the Gros-Islet district.

The Ministry of Health extends condolences to the bereaved families, friends and loved ones of all of these individuals.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 97 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the number of active cases in-country to 770. Two (2) individuals are in critical state while twelve (12) others are severely ill at the Respiratory Hospital.

To date, a total of 36,291 individuals have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 30,188 have received the second dose. A total of 11,760 individuals have received the first dose and 6,065 individuals have received the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Vaccinations will continue tomorrow Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at the Vigie Sports Complex, Dennery Mothers’ Pre-School and the St. Anthony Medical Center in View Fort. Vaccinations are scheduled for distribution at all sites from 9 am to 4 pm.
