Saint Lucia records 55 new cases of COVID-19

Today Friday September 17, 2021 the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs confirms a total of 55 new cases of COVID-19. These cases were processed on Thursday September 16, 2021 at the Ezra Long Laboratory from a total of 255 samples. This number of positive cases makes up 21.6% of all the samples processed on that date. These new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 10, 399.

The Ministry of Health also reports two new COVID-19 deaths. To date, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in country is 108 and the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is 42.

COVID-19 death #107 is a 41 year old male from the Babonneau district. COVID-19 death #108 is a 56 year old male from the Castries district. The Ministry of Health sympathizes with the families, friends and loved ones of these individuals.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 11 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the number of active cases in country to date to 2445. Two of these active cases are currently critical and eight of them are severely ill at the Respiratory Hospital.

To date, a total of 35, 488 individuals have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID19 vaccine and 28, 910 have received the second dose. A total of 7, 368 individuals have received the first dose and 94 individuals have received the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Tomorrow Saturday, September 18, 2021 the vaccine will be given at the Vieux-Fort Wellness Centre Grounds and the Vigie Sports Complex from 9am to 2pm. The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs will continue providing daily updates to the public as new information becomes available.
