During his second address to the nation in less than 48 hours, Honourable Allen Michael Chastanet, Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Economic Growth, Job Creation, External Affairs and the Public Service informed the nation that come July 26th, 2021, Saint Lucians will have the opportunity to head to polls to vote for either a new government or continue with business as usual and give his government another term.
The Prime Minister before the grand announcement highlighted a few of his government’s achievements which included the reopening of the tourism industry, management of COVID-19 and opening of the Owen King European Union Hospital among others.
The Labour party government came under heavy criticism during the address for, according to the prime minister, largely failing to complete the St. Jude Hospital after spending over a hundred million dollars as well as leaving a dwindling economy for his government to revive.
Saint Lucians had long anticipated the ringing of the election bell, however, according to the Prime Minister, concern for a massive COVID-19 outbreak, disrupting schools and resolving the dark cloud of IMPACS played a significant role in his consideration for calling the elections.
