Thomas is a recognized international model and was recently crowned the 2019 Martinique marlin tournament champion. She jumped at the opportunity to be the first woman to own a horse in the inaugural Piton Cup noting that “this is a once in a lifetime event and I want to represent Saint Lucia and with any luck come home with the cup.The money would be fun to have as well” she laughed.

Thomas rounded up a sponsor and bought a half interest in the gelding ‘Minegold’ for US$10,000. She thinks ‘Minegold’ is a fantastic horse with immense potential with a breeding lineage of two of the greatest horses of all time,‘Secretariat’ and ‘Seattle Slew’,both triple-crown winners. In the 144-year history of the tripl- crown there have only been 13 winners.

With her purchase of Minegold Thomas will actually receive two horses. Minegold, who will race in the Piton Cup and another horse,a filly she hopes to name ‘Queen Lily’,which is entered to race in the Helen of The West Stakes, a US$20,000 race.Queen Lily will also race in Saint Lucia next year. When asked if Lily was excited she exclaimed “oh my gosh, I can’t sleep. I’ve never done anything like this before and the horses are so beautiful, strong and handsome. I dream of being in the winner’s circle come race day.”

Miss Lily Thomas has partnered with the famous Three Diamonds Stables, based at Keenel and in Kentucky. They are well-established winners of multiple stakes races in the United States. Lily has named her organization Queen Lily Stables and has selected a celebrated horse trainer and outright racing legend from Jamaica, named Mr. Anthony ‘Baba’ Nunes. As one of the top trainers in the Caribbean he will oversee all training here in Saint Lucia. Baba Nunes is Caribbean racing royalty. He has 1,040 career wins, winner of 21 Classic Races, two Caribbean Triple Crowns and an astonishing 639,621,700 (JMD) in career winnings. He is assisted, in Saint Lucia, by the talented Mr. Marvin Campbell.
