THE 2018-2019 Veterans In Sports Inc (VISI), in collaboration with the Saint Lucia Football Association, continues this weekend at La Ressource, Dennery with four exciting matches as teams vie for places in the semifinal of the main draw of the Caribbean Alliance Gold Cup.
Today from 6.00 p.m. defending champions Soufriere, led by their prolific goal scorer Jerome Serville, will take on Micoud Veterans; at 8.00 p.m. current Plate champions and three times Caribbean Alliance Gold Cup champions VSADSC will fancy their chances against last year’s finalist Gros Islet.
On their way to the quarterfinals – Soufriere topped Group A with 10 points; Micoud Veterans finished second in Group B with 7 points; VSADC was in a spot of bother but managed to squeezed themselves in Group A with 6 points; Gros Islet finished on top of Group B with a clean slate 15 goals for, and not a goal against them, they collected 12 points on the way.
A lot is at stake for the four teams today.
Tomorrow (Sunday 20th) the showpiece resumes from 5.00 p.m. when Central Vieux Fort, with former national players Titus Elva, Valencious Joseph and Layton Sandiford, take on Marchand.
To bring the curtains down on a weekend of exciting football and friendly rivalry at 7.00 p.m. Flow Lancers with Nigel Springer, Vilan Edward (goalkeeper), Trevor Daniel, RaphaelCallender will take on the ever improving LabowieConnextions. This is one game that is somewhat difficult to predict as both teams have players with a never say die attitude who will be coming all out at each other to secure their semifinal spot.
On their way to the quarterfinals – Central Vieux Fort topped Group C with 10 points and a whopping 19 goals for, and only 1 goal against them; Marchand ended up in fourth place in Group D with 7 points, edging out Vieux Fort South on 6 points; Flow Lancers topped Group D with 8 points; they scored 7 goals for, but conceded 3 along the way and finally LabowieConnextions, finished second in Group C with 8 points.
CEO Veterans In Sports Inc, Alvin Malaykhan said,” I expect another exciting weekend of football at the La Ressource playing field. The quality of play on the pitch has been amazing and nothing short of excitement, this year we have seen a great improvement by all the teams.”
“The eight teams in the quarterfinal round of the tournament are all quality teams and it will be hard to predict which four teams will make it to the semifinal round next weekend.” Malaykhan noted.
Malaykhan took the time out as he urged sports enthusiasts from near and far to come out in their numbers to support some of Saint Lucia’s past national players.
