WITH April been dubbed youth month, the Saint Lucia National Youth Council (SLNYC) in collaboration with the Department of Youth Development and Sports have officially announced the hosting here of the 2018 Caribbean Youth Conference, slated for April 26th and 27th.
The two-day conference embraces the theme “Framing Caribbean Youth Development, From Rhetoric to Action” and will be held at the Golden Palm Event Center in Rodney Bay.
The conference is designed to solicit the participation of young professionals, as well as youth and community leaders around Saint Lucia and the Caribbean region.
According to a press release, “The objective of The Caribbean Youth Conference is to create a platform for young persons from various backgrounds to discuss and address issues, highlight the importance of advocacy and volunteerism and engage in dialogue with government officials in plotting the way forward for Caribbean youth. “
To gain maximum participation, the programme is broken down into three segments, including: plenary sessions on the impact of crime on youth and the importance of youth engagement in advocacy and policy, in addition to breakout sessions which will allow persons to engage in discourse within their field of interest and culminate with Straight Up Talks, where youth delegates will be given an opportunity to dialogue with the government officials, on the major issues highlighted at the conference.
According to the statement, “We look forward to the support of young persons within Saint Lucia as we seek to establish an active youth movement. We urge young persons to take advantage of this opportunity and join the youth core at the Caribbean Youth Conference 2018.”
Applications for participation in the 2018 Caribbean Youth Conference in Saint Lucia, 2018 is now open and youth, aged 16 to 35, are invited to apply before April 4th, 2018.
