In an address to a Town Hall Meeting at Prospect Place New York on February 10th, 2018, a new way direction for the citizens of Saint Lucia was delineated by Leader of the Opposition and Political Leader of the Saint Lucia Labour Party Hon Philip J. Pierre.
The address dubbed “A New Way Forward” teased a blueprint of fresh democratic ideas of Governance for the island which will ensure “a zero tolerance to corruption and vindictiveness while in government”, “protection of Saint Lucia’s patrimony and heritage and ensuring that the beaches remain public property”, to name a few.
Pierre, while imploring the gathering to pay close attention to and keep a keen interest in the business of the island, detailed a number of discontinued projects and programmes such as the National Trust subvention, St. Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival, St. Jude Hospital Reconstruction Project, Gros Islet Highway Project and NICE Programme all terminated under the current administration’s watch.
Pierre believes that the S.L.P’s economic policy will further boost the development of entrepreneurship, especially amongst the youth. He made a strong call for the support of local micro-business and medium-sized enterprises through incentives and other forms of business organization.
