THE Saint Lucia Amateur Swimming Association is presenting a fundraiser, Swimathon, geared towards assisting with the expenses in sending the national team to St. Vincent and the Grenadines to compete in the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States Swim Championship starting next Friday.

The Swimathon is scheduled for this Sunday at the Rodney Heights Aquatic Center. All 33 members of Team Saint Lucia and SLASA affiliates from the various clubs on the island will swim as many laps sponsored by supporters.

The organizers are expecting to raise over $6000 to go towards transportation and meals for the team while in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. It is estimated that the entire cost for Saint Lucia’s participation is well over $85,000. All 33 members of Team Saint Lucia will be contributing $750 towards the costs.

The SLASA is inviting all and sundry to either swim with SLASA and get their laps sponsored to assist in this drive or sponsor swimmers laps.

Meanwhile, South African-born Olympian Keri Ann Payne will make a guest appearance and address all present on her journey to being a medalist at the Olympics.
