The Government and People of Saint Lucia congratulate sister isle St. Vincent and the Grenadines on the occasion of its 37th Independence anniversary on, October 27.
In conveying his congratulations, Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Allen Chastanet, said: “National occasions like Independence call for celebration but also importantly, reflection. It can be seen as a special bond that the two island nations both attained our Independence in 1979; Saint Lucia on February 22, 1979 and St. Vincent and the Grenadines on October 27 of the same year. Geographically, we are very close and that means we share many common priorities and concerns, so there is always room to work together. I take this opportunity on behalf of the Cabinet of Ministers to convey to Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves and the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines best wishes from the people of Saint Lucia on this special occasion.”
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines was the last of the Windward Islands to gain Independence.
