ADVISORY NUMBER 1. 11:00 AM 28TH SEPTEMBER 2016 A TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR ST. LUCIA. AT 11:00 A.M. TODAY, THE STRONG TROPICAL WAVE JUST EAST OF SAINT LUCIA WAS UPGRADED TO TROPICAL STORM MATTHEW.
TROPICAL STORM MATTHEW IS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 13.4 NORTH…LONGITUDE 60.7 WEST, OR ABOUT 25 MILES OR 40 KM EAST OF ST. LUCIA. MATTHEW IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST NEAR 21 MPH OR 33 KM/H. ON THE FORECAST TRACK THE CENTER OF THE TROPICAL STORM MATTHEW SHOULD PASS OVER SAINT LUCIA BY THIS AFTERNOON.
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 58 MPH OR 93 KM/H, WITH HIGHER GUSTS. SOME STRENGTHENING IS FORECASTED AS MATTHEW CONTINUES TO MOVE WESTWARD. STRONG GUSTY WINDS, HEAVY RAINFALL AND ROUGH SEAS ARE EXPECTED TO AFFECT SAINT LUCIA DURING THE PASSAGE OF THIS SYSTEM. REPEATING THE 11:00 A.M.
POSITION LATITUDE 13.4 NORTH. LONGITUDE 60.7 WEST, OR ABOUT 25 MILES OR 40 KM EAST OF SO THE SOUTHERN TIP OF ST. LUCIA. RESIDENTS OF ST. LUCIA AND THE REST OF THE WINDWARD ISLANDS ARE ASKED TO CLOSELY MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS SYSTEM AND THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING AND LANDSLIDES SHOULD TAKE ALL NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS AGAINST THESE HAZARDS.
