ST. LUCIA’S three-time Olympian and reigning Sportswoman of the Year Levern Spencer ended her long and highly successful 2016 season on a medal-winning note in Brussels, Belgium on Friday September 9.

She competed at the Van Damme / Brussels Memorial Diamond League, in a non-diamond leagues Women’s Competition organized in honor of Rio Olympics Heptathlon champion Nafissatou Thiam.

Spencer, the region’s premier female high jumper, soared over the bar at 1.93 metres to win the silver medal behind home town girl Thiam, with Rio Olympic finalists Inika McPherson of the USA and Svetlana Radzvil of Uzbekistan placing joint third.

This marked the 18th time that the star high jumper had jumped 1.90 metres or higher this season and her 13th medal, overall, won in a very successful season.

Spencer, the only Caribbean female high jumper to have made it to the finals of the Rio Olympics, has since returned to her base in the USA and is expected home on Thursday, where a hero’s welcome awaits her after a history-making 2016 season.
