RENOWNED Spanish navigator Alvaro de Marichalar stopped off in Saint. Lucia last Friday as part of his solo Caribbean sea tour on board a tiny 11 foot. vessel.
deMarichalar arrived from Mustique in the Grenadines. During his 24 hour stay here he was based in the IGY Marina of Rodney Bay.
The Spanish adventurer travels around the Caribbean on board his tiny a waterscooter. On this expedition, he travels along the coast of 28 countries. His tour will end where he began his journey in the capital city of Puerto Rico, San Juan.
deMarichalar is commemorating the 5th Centennial of the European Discovery of Florida by Spanish Explorer Juan Ponce de León in 1513 as well as the 5th Centennial of the European Discovery of the Pacific Ocean by Spanish Adventurer Vasco Núñez de Balboa back in 1513
He is following both explorers’ watermarks. Once this voyage ends, Marichalar will establish his 13th world record, having already completed 40 maritime expeditions (since 1982) which includes crossing the Atlantic Ocean (from Rome to New York.
