IN celebration of St. Lucia’s 37th Independence Anniversary the St. Lucia Amateur Swimming Association staged its first Independence Swim Championship last weekend at the Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre. When the final scores were tabulated the Sharks Club were declared champions with a total of 545, a whopping 144 points clear of second place finisher Sea Jays.
Some 120 swimmers from across the island battled against one another towards improving their times whilst others attempted to use this final opportunity to qualify for Carifta Championship scheduled for March 22- 26 in Martinique.
The final team scores for the day were – 1st Sharks 545 points (girls 1st 338/ boys 2nd 207), 2nd Sea Jays 401 points (girls 2nd 176/ boys 225), 3rd lightning Aquatic 339 points (girls 165 / boys 3rd 174), Racers 4th 201 points (girls 5th 76 / boys 4th 125), 5th Southern Flying Fish 174 points (girls 4th 145 / boys 6th 29) and 6th Sports Academy 68 points (girls 34 / boys 34).
