DIGICEL continues to deliver on its commitment to invest in education in St Lucia and across the region.

The annual National Francophonie Schools Competitions, hosted by the Saint Lucia National Commission for UNESCO at the National Cultural Centre, took place last in observance of International Francophonie Day. Students from across the island competed in keenly contested categories all in the French language.

The competition among secondary school lower forms was the highlight, with 13 of the island’s top French students each confidently representing their institutions. Students were required to correctly spell words with specific articulation of various French accents presented by judges, otherwise they would be eliminated. After almost seven rounds of spelling, the final three standing were: the Vieux Fort Comprehensive Beanefield Secondary School, Vieux Fort Comprehensive La Ressource Secondary School and Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School. In the end, the first form spelling powerhouse from the Soufriere Comprehensive, Ayana Seed stood undefeated.

Having been previously judged, the winners of the Poster, Poetry and Dictation competitions were all awarded as part of Friday’s activities. Ave Maria Girls Primary was the top winner in the Primary School competition followed by Dame Pearlette Primary and St. Aloysius R.C Boys Primary in third place. In the Dictation competition held among upper secondary and tertiary level students the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College A Level division emerged as the top winner, closely followed by the Sir Arthur A Level Division Vieux-Fort and the Vieux-Fort Comprehensive La Ressource Secondary in third place.

Marketing and Communications Executive at Digicel, Miss Louise Victor praised the students and the UNESCO Commission for their efforts in collectively producing the competition. She said: “As part of our philosophy on investment in education, we embrace such partnerships which allow for us as a company to contribute to enriching the lives of the nation’s youth.”

Digicel awarded various top awardees in competitions with brand new Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 tablets to help foster their educational development.
