GROS ISLET, South Castries, Mabouya Valley and Soufriere Under – 19 cricket teams registered wins; hit Nixon Edmund scored an unbeaten century for South Castries and Vernillius Gabriel hit 98 not out for Gros Islet these were the main highlights as the St. Lucia National Cricket Association Inter – District / National Lotteries 50 over Cricket Tournament got underway this past weekend.
At the Gros Islet Playing Field, the home team batting first in a match reduced to 40 overs, made 270 for the loss of 5 wickets, with skipper Vernillius Gabriel finishing agonizingly close to a century. He ended on 98 not out which included 17 fours and one six. Other main contributors were Kimani Melius and Dane Edward with 37 runs each and, Rene Montoute 30.
Bowling for Central Castries, Jaden Elibox picked up 2 for 49 in 8 overs.
In reply, Central Castries was dismissed for 204 in 34.1 overs, with Jermain Harding hitting an aggressive 68 with 8 fours and five sixes and Daniel Augustin 35.
For Gros Islet Under – 19, the wicket takers were Simeon Gerson with 3 for 27, Christopher Albert with 2 for 16, Rene Montoute 2 for 32, and Stephen Mitchel 2 for 57.
Also on Saturday, Mabouya Valley defeated Dennery by 8 wickets at the La Ressource Playing Field, while Soufriere defeated Choiseul at the Piaye Playing Field.
On Sunday South Castries defeated Mabouya Valley by 85 runs. South Castries made 174 with Nixon Edmund scoring 112 not out and Avilinus Callendar made 21.
Bowling for Mabouya Valley, Zachary Edmund picked up 6 for 52
Mabouya Valley was bundled out for 89 with Kwesi Hobson top scoring with 30 while Azemyah Celestine chipped in with 21
Bowling for South Castries, Kester Charlemagne bagged 4 for 27 and Adil Barlow 2 for 15 .
Meanwhile, one match was played in the Acynta Auguste Women’s 50 over competition on Saturday. Gros Islet defeated South Castries by 188 runs.
Batting first Gros Islet scored 260 for the loss of two wickets with Swaylin William scoring an unbeaten 108, while Malika Edward scored 77.
In reply South Castries could only muster 72 as they lost wickets at crucial intervals with Krishna Joseph top scoring with 20.
Bowling for Gros Islet Milika Edward took 3 for 10 and Qiana Joseph 2 for 15.
