Boxers Step Up Plans For Rio

THE St. Lucia Boxing Association is continuing with its programmes for 2016 with the current focus on developing its technical expertise and preparations for Rio qualifiers in Argentina.

Coaches Conrad Fredericks and Anthony Roy Velinor left the island on Sunday for their two star coaching course. On Monday, boxers LyndelMarcellin and Arthur Langellier, accompanied by Cuban coach Jorge Gonzalez Dominguez headed to Cuba to intensify their preparation for the Rio qualifiers in Argentina between March 10 – 20.

They will be teaming up with other boxers from Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and Guyana, who will all be in Cuba.

“We want to a be strong Caribbean boxing family in an effort to make a mark at this year’s qualifier. The presidents of our region, at our last meeting in Guyana planned to work together for the betterment of our boxers, President of the St. Lucia Boxing Association, David Christopher said.

He disclosed that another boxer Jacob Gabriel is expected to join the Saint Lucian team from England. From Cuba, the team will travel straight to Argentina where Christopher will serve as manager of the team.

“The boxers are all happy to be able to get this intensive training camp before heading off to these qualifiers, “ Christopher added.

The St. Lucia Olympic Committee Incorporated has been instrumental in funding the activities and travel of the boxers to the camp and qualifiers.
