French courts on Wednesday (April 21) handed down their judgement on the man who opened fire on BAC police officers in Fort de France, Terres Sainville district.
What was to be a routine traffic check, almost turned deadly for three officers who attempted to check a two-wheeler with a suspicious license plate during a night check was fired upon.
According to evidence given, the man had drawn a gun and fired three times at point-blank range at one of the police officers. The police would eventually overpower and subdue the individual who during the melee injured himself in the leg with his own weapon.
One officer was also injured during the struggle.
The 40-year-old felon was sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment by the Court of Assizes of Martinique.
