Another Win For Champs, Courts Jets

THE action continued in the National Basketball League with a double-header in Gros Islet on Saturday and three games spread through Micoud and Soufriere on Sunday.

St. Lucia Fire Service won a close encounter on Saturday over Sandals High Risers edging them 63 – 62 in Division 1 action KFC “Player of the Game” Marcian Calderon had a huge double-double of 28 points and 17 rebounds. VachelCherubin also added 11 points and 5 assists to steer them past Sandals.

For Sandals, Gaspard Thomas had 18 points and 14 rebounds and Ainsley Charles had 13 points and 5 rebounds in their loss.

The second game of the double-header featured the thus far undefeated defending champions Courts Jets and Morne Gladiators. The Jets continued with winning ways 89 – 70 with six players scoring in double figures to win by double digits. “Player of the Game” Ron Dumurville led the way with 18 points, 5 steals and 5 assists and Keegan Preville added 13 points and 14 rebounds.

For Morne Gladiators, both Mervin Augustin and ShamoirJn Baptiste had a team high of 17 points in their second successive defeat in Premier League.

Games continued on Sunday starting with a Division 1 clash between the undefeated BBC and Combined Schools in Soufriere. BBC came out on top in that encounter 74 – 65 through “Player of the Game” Craig Fontellio joint leading scorer with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals and Rahim Auguste also chipping in with 19 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. JadsonMontoute and Tristan James both had team highs of 16 points for Combined Schools in their loss.

Still in Soufriere, Premier League’s VBCC Warlords overcame home team Canaries Moon River 67 – 58, thanks to KFC “Player of the Game” Leonard Emmanuel, who finished with 19 points and 8 rebounds, aided by Nigel Francis and Nigel Butcher each adding 13 points. For Canaries, Eustace Francis finished with a game high of 21 points and 14 rebounds.

Soufriere Sulphur Stars also faced MicoudHustlerz in Micoud on Sunday evening.

Games continue today at the Morne with MicoudHustlerz facing home team Morne Gladiators from 7:00 p.m.
