This weekend, the Saint Lucia Semi-Pro Football League (SPFL) heads to the picturesque western coast town of Soufriere for more thrilling action, featuring a clash between two top contenders in Tier 1.
The showdown kicks off on Friday, September 2, at the Soufriere Mini Stadium, beginning with Saint Lucia’s National Under-17 Team facing Choiseul, followed by Mabouya Valley taking on Vieux Fort North.
Today’s fixtures include:
- La Clery vs. Vieux Fort South – 6:00 p.m.
- Dennery vs. Anse La Raye – 8:00 p.m.
Sunday’s matches are set as follows:
- Central Castries vs. Canaries – 5:00 p.m.
- Soufriere vs. Gros Islet – 8:00 p.m.
Recently, the SPFL experienced a low-scoring weekend at the Soufriere Mini Stadium, with three draws from four matches. Soufriere emerged as the only victorious team from this round.
In the ongoing championship race for Tier 1, Soufriere’s recent win is pivotal, as front-runners Vieux Fort South, Dennery, and Canaries all dropped points. A notable match saw Dennery and Gros Islet end in a 1-1 draw, with Gros Islet’s Eden Charles netting an 18th-minute lead, which was countered by Javel Faucher’s equalizer for Dennery in the 54th minute.
Additionally, Canaries and Mabouya Valley played to a stalemate at 0-0, impacting Canaries’ chance to close in on the league leaders.
On Sunday, Anse La Raye and Vieux Fort South also drew 0-0. The day concluded with Soufriere defeating Central Castries 1-0, thanks to a goal from Hanif Antoine in the 10th minute. With three draws in four games, Vieux Fort South maintains their lead at the top of the table.
However, their inability to claim victory against Anse La Raye, coupled with Dennery and Canaries dropping crucial points, keeps the title race wide open.
In other results from the past week (September 29):
- Roseau Valley vs. Choiseul: 4-0
Stay tuned for more exciting developments in the SPFL.
