Sagicor gives to Cancer Society and Faces of Cancer

EACH year, the month of October is observed as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and during this time, special attention is taken to raise awareness about this disease and to raise funding for those impacted. For many years now, Sagicor has observed Pinktober in all its markets and in Saint Lucia it’s no different.

Last week, members of Faces of Cancer and Saint Lucia Cancer Society stopped by the Sagicor office for a socially distanced meet-up and were presented with donations from Sagicor to continue their diligent work for the community.

Eon Phillips, Assistant Vice President, EC Insurance Operations, Branch Manager and Principal Representative for Sagicor Life in St Lucia said, “The importance of supporting the fight against breast cancer should never be understated. This disease has demonstrated that it has no regard for age, gender or social status. Education and awareness is key, so that everyone understands the importance of doing breast health checks, however, continued financial support is also needed so that organisations can do all that is needed to ensure we help those who have been afflicted, survive and thrive, while research continues for a cure.

“This year we are happy to support once again, the St Lucia Cancer Society and Faces of Cancer, two organisations whom we have continued to build relationships with. During this month, our staff are wearing pink to bring attention to the work that needs to be done and to stand in solidarity with survivors and all those who have been touched by this disease.”

At the cheque presentation ceremony, Dr. Tamara Remy of the St Lucia Cancer Society, along with Dorothy Phillip, Patricia Mitchell & Annmarie Edmund of the Faces of Cancer received donations of $3,000, with each organisation expressing deep appreciation to Sagicor for its continued support. The representatives also used the opportunity to urge Saint Lucians to learn as much as possible about lowering their risk of developing cancer and also staying ahead, by getting checked, which allows for better management and recovery if discovered early.
