THE Gros Islet Playing Field will come alive tomorrow when the Gros Islet Football League stages the final and third place play off in one of its most talked about football tournaments on its calendar for 2014, the District Parliamentary Representative’s Cup.
Police will be up against Northern B for the 3rd place play off silver ware. In their semi final match – up, the Police team was defeated by Monchy 3 – 1, while Northern B went down to Windjammer 3 – 0.
The atmosphere is expected to rise a few notches for the grand finale under lights scheduled for a 7.00 p.m. between Monchy and Windjammer. By all indications the Monchy team will depend heavily on their goal scorers from previous matches in the tournament – Jason Joseph, Sylvanus Mann, Miandad Soudine, Miguel Eugene, Neil Nelson and O’Neil Nelson, while Windjammer will want nothing less from their own goal scorers in the tournament Kimel Dorleo, Jimmy Alfred, Lawrence Pierre, Jason Sydney, Devayne Mathurin, Ed Joseph to ensure them the championship trophy.
President of the GIFL Shane Paul said: “I expect to see a high level of play in the two matches slated for Sunday. Throughout the tournament some of the teams upped the tempo in terms of their quality of play. The final will be hard to predict. One will have to wait till then for the final whistle to determine the champion as Monchy and Windjammer will each be coming all out to secure the win”.
