While Vieux Fort maintains a strangle hold on Tier 1 of the St. Lucia Semi Professional Football League (SPFL), the rest of the league appear to be shifting dramatically after every match day.
New powerhouse Dennery has jumped into second place after the weekend’s action, while Defending Champions La Clery fall to sixth, Anse La Raye rose from the bottom of the table making way for Central Castries to occupy that cellar position.
On Friday evening, Micoud’s Kluivert Grey had to score a hattrick to see off the St. Lucia Under 17 Select Team in Tier 2. In the evening’s second encounter League leaders Vieux Fort South and Central Castries battled to a nil-nil draw leaving the Castries team even more desperate for points and rooted at the bottom of the table.
On Saturday, Dennery handed Vieux Fort North a 4-0 thrashing, featuring a brace from Garvin Reggie, plus a contribution from Shaquelle William and an unfortunate own goal rounding off a miserable night of the Vieux Fort team.
Saturday’s second match was a commercial for what is seen as an extremely competitive table.
Anse La Raye took the game to defending champions La Clery and came out on the other side with all three points. The Anse La Raye team took the lead through Vershaun Jerome before an equalizer from Uhann Degazon. Jaydin Ezekiel gave Anse La Raye the lead again before Dahmanii Berthier stamped his authority on the game with a brace to make the score 4-1. Late in the game Anse La Raye had the unfortunate pleasure of scoring an own goal to usher in the final whistle with a 4-2 scoreline.
The encounters on Sunday affected little with both matches ending in a draw. In the first encounter Gros Islet and Mabouya Valley went at each other, both needing valuable points. Gros Islet’s Hamaiael Charlery opened the scoring but that was cancelled out by Torian Joseph. In the second match third place Canaries and fifth place Soufriere played to a nil-nil draw.
