IT was pandemonium at the Mindoo Phillip Park this past Thursday afternoon when the final announcement was made for the 2020 St Joseph’s Convent (SJC) Inter House Sports meet under the theme, “One Team, One Spirit, One Win”.
Blessed with near perfect weather, despite having one rain interruption before lunch, last year’s champion, St Theresa House, decked in their customary yellow attire retained the championship with 671 points; 57 points clear of second place finisher St Anne (614), they were further by 105 points clear of the third place finisher Maria Goretti (566) while Blessed Anne came in fourth place with 518 points.
The day started with the march past of teams followed by prayers and remarks by SJC Vice Principal Sharon Elizee who substituted for School Principal, Rufina Donat.
In spite not being present due to illness, School Principal Rufina Donat in a prepared speech said, “It is with this slogan that we face the competitive field encouraging each other to give of her best. The success of each is going to be SJC’s victory”.
“Together you will work towards the triumph of your House running against your personal team members, but that’s the fun of it all. Give of your best, do not be afraid of what your competitors possess but challenge yourself to give of your personal best and surprise yourself”.
“Sports provide true power and valuable lessons for all of us in the areas of discipline, teamwork, sacrifice; learn to win and lose graciously. Be the best that you can be”.
Here are some of the top performers/ results on the track: Division 1, 100 metres – 1st Aviona Edmund (13.35 seconds/ St Theresa); Division 2, 100 meters – 1st Gianne Felix 14.02 seconds (St Maria Goretti); Division 3, 100 metres – 1st Hannah Charles (12.83 seconds /St Anne); Division 4, 100 meters – 1st Serena Mc Kenzie (13.62 seconds/ St Anne); Division 5, 100 metres – 1st Tarcianna Placide (11.59 seconds/St Theresa).
Division 1, 200 meters – 1st Aviona Edmund (22.74 seconds/ St Theresa); Division 2, 200 meters – 1st Gianne Felix (29.49 seconds/ St Maria Goretti); Division 3, 200 metres – 1st Hannah Charles (26.06 seconds/ St Anne); Division 4, 200 metres: 1st Serena Mc Kenzie (28.30 seconds/ St Anne).
Division’s 4 and 5, 1000 metres – 1st Jasmine Steide (3 minutes 47.19 seconds/St Maria Goretti); 2nd Harmony Momerelle (3 minutes 57.12 seconds/St Theresa). Division 1, 2 and 3, 1500 meters – 1st Naekeisha Louis (6 minutes 09.50 seconds/St Theresa); 2nd Destinee Wallace (6 minutes 11.94 seconds/Blessed Ann).
Division 1, 400 meters – 1st Aviona Edmund (1 minute 13.43 seconds/St Theresa); Division 2, 400 metres – 1st Nakeisha Louis (1 minute 10.48 seconds/St Theresa); Division 3, 400 metres – 1st Shanice Kirton (1 minute 06.48 seconds/St Theresa); Division 4, 400 metres – 1st Chole Francis (1 minute 10.80 seconds/ Blessed Ann); Division 5, 300 metres – Sierratina Hilaire (48.23 seconds/St Anne), 2nd Tarcianna Placide (49.68 seconds/ St Theresa).
In the 4×100 relay races run in the afternoon, Blessed Anne was first across the finish line in Division 1 in a time of 58.50 seconds; St Theresa came in second with a time of 59.16 seconds. St Theresa captured Division 2 in a time of 58.62 seconds, followed by St Ann with a time of 58.77 seconds. Division 3: 1st St Ann in a time of 55.20 seconds; St Theresa 2nd in a time of 58.60 seconds. Overall points in the 4×100 meters relay: St Ann 68, St Theresa 56, Blessed Ann 40 and St Maria Goretti 36.
