THE claws of crime reaped through the close-nit community of Mon Repos on the evening of Saturday 9th November, when two masked individuals tore through the minimart of 77-year-old Andrew Joseph, with the intention to rob the place, thus shooting Andrew in the upper abdomen in the process. Andrew at the time of the incident was accompanied by his wife who was unhurt during the ordeal. An undisclosed amount of cash was reported to have been taken by the masked individuals.
The incident was reported to fire officers attached to the Micoud Fire Station at approximately 7:11 pm. Upon arrival at the scene, medical personnel assessed and treated the bullet wound of Andrew Joseph, then conveyed him to the St Jude Hospital where he was said to be in critical condition. No arrests were reported in relation to this incident; however, two individuals were reported to be assisting police with investigations.
According to a member of the community of Mon Repos, Andrew Joseph, proprietor of Andrew’s Minimart, has served the community for many years through the convenient services offered by his minimart. Andrew was described by residents to be a kind and hard working man who earned a living as a banana farmer for many years of his life before running his own minimart. He was also said to be “well loved and respected” by members of the community of Mon Repos. Community members continue to express distress over this latest shooting.
