THE owner of KaïPapaï, situated at the Balenbouche Development in Choiseul, is hosting a free Biodanza Workshop for members of the public this coming weekend from Friday October 11th to Sunday October 13th. Biodanza is a system of self development which utilizes dance, music and movement to foster feelings of self awareness. It is a form of dance therapy and moving meditation that is practiced in a group. The purpose of this free workshop is to help build interpersonal ties between people while promoting community development. The workshop will be led by Adrien Baya from Martinique, a Biodynamic Psychologist by profession and a Biodanza instructor.

Sylvie, the owner of Kaï Papaï, said that she came up with the initiative for the Biodanza workshop as a way of building bridges across languages, cultures and generations. “

According to Sylvie, “Biodanza to me is opening up my arms to life and to others, letting go of everyday pressure and letting out my inner child.” She added that Biodanza was an effective tool for letting go of feelings which were too difficult to express. It also served to help promote confidence in one’s self and confidence in opening up to others. She noted that Biodanza will inspire persons to have a positive mindset toward others, which will ultimately create stronger bonds between members of the community.

Biodanza started in the 1960s and is now embraced in over 50 countries around the world. It is a system which has been reported to promote healthier relationships between people. Adrien, who has hosted a number of Biodanza workshops in Martinique, said that Biodanza was an avenue for people to express themselves and to release feelings of stress, negativity and anxiety through music, dance and motion. He said that a lot of people are struggling with burdens from the past which are associated with violence and abuse among other disturbing elements which can cause problems later in life. In reference to this, he said, “What’s been done of me is not important; what’s important is what I do with what’s been done with me.” The Biodanza workshop promises to provide an avenue through which participants can release the negative feelings that affect them emotionally and psychologically.

The workshop comprises of ‘Five Rhythms or Ecstatic Dancing’ from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday October 11th, Biodanza sessions on Saturday October 12th from 9a.m. to 12p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., and a final Biodanza session on Sunday October 13th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. All members of the public are invited. Persons wishing to have lunch or dinner with the group are welcome to bring a dish that they would like to share with the rest of the group. Participation is free but donations are welcome.
