PRESS RELEASE – THE Archbishop, Clergy and the Committee for the Promotion of the Social Teachings of the Catholic Church are continuing their efforts in the development of the Kairos Project launched on August l, 2017.
The Kairos (“Opportune Time for Action”) Project aims to raise awareness of the Social Doctrine of the Catholic Church (CST) as a method for addressing the social issues which plague our society locally and globally.
Catholic Social Teaching (CST) whilst rooted in Biblical Theology finds its honest expression and manifestation in Human Dignity, The Common Good and Preferential Option for the Poor.
CST is particularly relevant to the current global and local situation with respect to the following issues: Human Dignity and Right to Life The Environment, Climate Change Human Trafficking, Immigration, Improved access to affordable Health Care, Refugees, Crime and Violence (especially Domestic Violence, Child Abuse and Protection of Minors, Abuse of Vulnerable groups (Elderly and the Differently Abled), Growing Economic Inequality, Respect for Human Rights and Timely Justice for all.
These issues should concern all citizens of goodwill.
The Committee for the Promotion of the Social Teaching of the Church has been meeting and planning with the Archdiocesan Presbyteral Council to develop a plan of action for creating awareness and sensitivity for, and education about the Social Teachings of the Catholic Church and the civic responsibility which ensues from those teachings.
Programmes have been planned for the ongoing formation of clergy, laity and civil society.
A seminar for youth and young adults is scheduled to take place in November 2018.
The Committee and the Presbyteral Council are looking at creative ways of educating and engaging civil society.
The expected outcomes of these activities are the growth and development of the social conscience and the empowerment for greater participation and involvement of all citizens in discussions leading towards an equitable and just society.
