VFort Water Upgrade Good Up to 2033

MANAGING Director for Water and Sewerage Company (WASCO), Vincent Hippolyte, has said that planned upgrades to the Vieux Fort water facility will satisfy the island’s demand for water until 2033.

The Vieux Fort Water Supply Redevelopment Project will outfit the facility with three new pumping stations, three new storage tanks and three new transmission lines.

“If all goes according to schedule, by the third quarter of this year [there should be] a contractor on site to begin work,” Hippolyte said. “The components of the project involve two intakes, and a water treatment plant with the capacity to produce 8.4 million gallons of water a day, which will satisfy demand up to the year 2033.”

WASCO hopes to publish invitations for pre-qualifications and requests for proposals by early March. The project will also address issues with non-revenue water, water efficiency and audit, and watershed management.

The water facility upgrade is funded via loan from the Caribbean Development Bank.
