Boxers Off To Guyana Contest

A ten member contingent of six boxers and four officials will leave Saint Lucia tomorrow for Guyana to participate in the Back to the Future Caribbean Development Boxing Championship being staged there.

The contingent is being led by elite senior boxers LyndellMarcellin who will compete in the Welterweight Division, Arthur Langelier in the Middleweight Division and Light Heavyweight Marvin Anthony.

Two Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School students who made impressive debuts in the sport earlier this year are also included in the squad. They are Lightweight junior Kareem Boyce and youth boxer Nathan Ferrari.

There is one debutant in the squad, 18 year old Tahj Browne who will compete in the Youth Welterweight Division.

Fourteen countries are down to compete making it the largest gathering of countries in Guyana for any sport in decades. About 100 boxers and 30 officials will be in Guyana for the event. Anguilla, Antigua, Bahamas, Barbados, Cayman Islands, French Guiana, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Jamaica, St. Maartin, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago have all registered to come to Guyana.
