The announcement was made on Thursday evening by FIFA President Gianni Infantino during a reception at Government House hosted by Acting Governor-General His Excellency Felix Finisterre, Mrs. Selma Finisterre, and Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre.

Infantino, who visited Saint Lucia from 5-6 November 2026, said the funding programme will commence in January 2027 and will focus on football development at all levels. The investment will support both male and female football, strengthen infrastructure, expand opportunities for players, and help nurture the aspirations of young footballers across the country.

Speaking at the event, the FIFA President highlighted the potential he witnessed in Saint Lucia’s Under-15 Boys’ Team, which recently participated in the inaugural FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival 2026 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

“What is missing is to give the boys and girls more opportunities, more competitions at the highest levels, a better environment and better games. And for this, we are investing a lot,” Infantino said.

He underscored FIFA’s commitment to the advancement of girls’ football and grassroots development programmes, while also commending Saint Lucia Football Association Inc. President Lyndon Cooper for his leadership and dedication to the development of both the men’s and women’s game in Saint Lucia.

The FIFA President said the investment reflects the organisation’s commitment to helping smaller football nations build sustainable programmes, improve facilities, and create pathways for young players to realise their full potential on the regional and international stage.
