Twenty-seven-year-old Tenisha Yarde of Cas En Bas, Gros Islet, has died, eight days after she fell onto the roadway and into the path of an oncoming omnibus during an incident in Rodney Bay.

Yarde succumbed to her injuries on Monday, August 10, at the Owen King EU Hospital, where she had been receiving medical treatment since the August 2 incident.

According to the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, the incident occurred on Sunday, August 2, when Yarde was involved in an altercation with a male and another female at Rodney Bay.

Police initially reported that during the altercation, Yarde fell onto the roadway and into the path of an oncoming omnibus, which ran over her. Personnel from the Saint Lucia Fire Service responded to the scene and transported Yarde by ambulance to the Owen King EU Hospital. She was initially reported to be in stable condition.

Eight days later, however, police confirmed that she had succumbed to her injuries.

The Criminal Investigations Department of the Gros Islet Police Divisional Headquarters is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The police have not disclosed further details regarding the altercation or indicated whether anyone has been charged in connection with the incident.

Yarde’s death brings a fatal outcome to an incident that was initially being investigated as a report of dangerous harm. It is unclear whether this has changed given Yarde’s passing.
