“Numbers Do Not Lie”: PM Pierre Administration Reportedly Cuts Unemployment

Saint Lucia is witnessing a significant decrease in unemployment figures, underscoring the government’s commitment to job creation, according to reports.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre, the country has reportedly achieved a historic decline in unemployment. The Office of the Prime Minister {OPM} says this was achieved by sound leadership, strategic management, and effective policy choices.

Since assuming office in July 2021, Prime Minister Pierre has tackled economic instability, supply chain disruptions, and soaring inflation.

Rather than making excuses, the OPM says his administration focused on solutions.

According to the 2025 Annual Labour Force Survey, Saint Lucia’s unemployment rate has dropped to 12.6 percent, down significantly from 21.9 percent in 2021.

The survey also reported an employed labor force of 100,210 in 2025, the highest in the past five years.

Remarkably, the unemployment rates for 2024 and 2025 are the lowest in 25 years, with figures of 8.8 percent and 10.8 percent, respectively, marking the lowest Q4 statistics in decades.

The National Insurance Corporation (NIC) supports this positive trend, showing the number of active insured persons rose from 55,017 in 2020-21 to 60,133 in 2021-22, and 61,851 in 2022-23.

This increase suggest that more Saint Lucians are working and contributing to the national system, further validating the success of the Pierre Administration’s economic growth plan, the OPM outlined.

A significant US$4.2 billion in direct investment, particularly in the tourism sector, has played a pivotal role in this progress. The investment has ignited a construction boom, increased hiring, supported suppliers, and enhanced economic activity across the nation.

Between 2021 and 2025, the labor force expanded by 12.9 percent, with substantial gains in the accommodation and food services sector.

The OPM highlighted that through initiatives like the Youth Economy Agency, the Community Tourism Agency, and the MSME Loan Grant Facility, the government has empowered entrepreneurs and small businesses to thrive.

This, the OPM suggested, is an example of people-first leadership. Saint Lucians are experiencing the benefits firsthand—more individuals are employed, households have increased income, and new opportunities are emerging.

The Pierre Administration came to office with an overwhelming mandate and a promise to “put people first.”
