Joint Police Operation Leads to Significant Drug and Ammunition Seizures
In a successful joint operation on March 18, officers from the Gangs, Narcotics, and Firearms Unit and the Special Services Unit of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) seized substantial quantities of illegal drugs and ammunition.
The operation unfolded in three phases, beginning with a detailed search of shed 7 at Port Castries conducted by the K-9 Unit. These procedures are part of ongoing efforts to curb the illegal entry of drugs and firearms via maritime cargo.
In the second phase, around 2:45 p.m. at the General Post Office, Customs and Excise officers discovered a package suspected to contain Cannabis Resin during routine inspections.
Following this, the Gangs, Narcotics, and Firearms Unit took over the investigation, which is ongoing, and further updates will be provided.
The third phase of the operation took place at Wiltons Yard, prompted by intelligence about armed individuals in the area. Officers recovered nine rounds of 9mm ammunition and one round of .40 ammunition during the search. No arrests were made during this phase.
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to combatting criminal activity, ensuring that all resources are utilized to bring offenders to justice and restore public safety.
In a separate operation at the Vieux Fort Seaport, a suspicious consignment was seized by the GNFU and Customs and Excise. A blue barrel containing food items and personal effects was examined, leading to the discovery of multiple vacuum-sealed packages of Cannabis and Cannabis resin hidden among the items.
A total of thirty-six packages of Cannabis Resin, weighing 16.8 kg, and twenty-nine packages of Cannabis, weighing 12.85 kg, were recovered, along with related documents. Stewart Emmanuel, who was present at the scene, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including the Importation of Controlled Drugs, Possession of Controlled Drugs, and Possession of Controlled Drugs with Intent to Supply.
Emmanuel was escorted to the Second District Court on Monday, March 16, and has been remanded in custody as investigations continue.
