Grand Independence Anniversary Celebrations Underway

Saint Lucia is all set to celebrate its 47th Independence Anniversary with an impressive lineup of events scheduled for February 22, 2026, under the theme “Douvan Ansanm: Nourishing Our People, Strengthening Our Nation.”

The National Planning Independence Committee and community organizers have been hard at work to ensure a memorable celebration.

Key Activities and Events:

– Official Flag Raising Ceremony: On Saturday, February 21, at multiple locations, including Gros Islet, Castries, Soufrière, and Vieux Fort, starting at 6:00 p.m.

– Independence Day Rally: The focal celebratory rally will take place on Sunday, February 22, at 2:00 p.m. at the Micoud Playing Field.

– Independence Drags: Experience thrilling racing action on February 22-23 at The Base, Vieux Fort.

– Commemorative Stamps: The government launched stamps featuring celebrated athlete Julien Alfred to honor national pride.

– Cultural & Family Events: Join us on February 22 for a Family Fun Day at Fond Doux Eco Resort, celebrating local culture.

– Diaspora Celebrations: The Saint Lucia Association of London will host a 47th Anniversary celebration at Porchester Hall on February 21.

The celebrations aim to promote unity, pride, and national development.

Setting the tone was the Baton Relay event, which has gained popularity across the island. Kicking off in the East Castries constituency led by Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre, the relay will conclude in Canaries on February 21 as part of the Independence Day festivities.

– Military Parade: On February 22, at 10:00 a.m. at the Micoud Playing Field, honoring service, discipline, and national pride.

– National Independence Rally and Independence Showcase: Engage in the festivities in Micoud later that same day.
