Saint Lucia is actively enhancing its immigration services, particularly in the area of passport issuance.
Senior officials from the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) announce that one of the key upgrades will be an online application system for passports.
New features will be implemented to ensure the highest quality of service and product. Additionally, an immigration department will open in the southern region of the island.
Inspector Crescent Lionel of the RSLPF’s Immigration Department provided updates on the progress.
“In 2025, the immigration department successfully completed much of its mandate and issued over 5,000 Saint Lucian passports,” he stated.
Inspector Lionel also confirmed the reintroduction of Tenure Passports for adults aged 18 and over. The unit is in the final stages of implementing online applications for passport renewals.
“We expect that within the first quarter of the year, individuals will be able to apply for passport renewals online,” he stated.
Currently, the procedure is undergoing testing at the immigration department’s office, where it has been made available to select individuals seeking renewals. This initiative aims to ensure a smooth introduction to the broader community by the end of the first quarter.
Inspector Lionel highlighted that, last year, the department processed at least 12,000 visitors at both northern and southern airports and seaports. Additionally, improvements have been made to the electronic passport to enhance its security, making it a more reliable option for citizens.
“We are revising the passport application process to streamline it for applicants,” he confirmed. The construction of a sub-office in the southern part of the island is underway.
Furthermore, the lead immigration officer announced, “This year, we are reviewing the Immigration Act, the Passport Act, and other relevant legislation to enhance the efficiency of the Immigration Department within the RSLPF.”
The department has completed a review of the online ED-card, making it more user-friendly. The new version was launched last week, simplifying the process for travelers to Saint Lucia.
Inspector Lionel informed the public that application hours are designated to Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with document collection available on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
“This schedule allows our department to provide efficient service, ensuring individuals do not wait for more than half an hour,” he said.
Saint Lucia is significantly modernizing its immigration and passport services with a series of enhancements: the introduction of 10-year passports for adults at no additional cost, the installation of automated passport control kiosks (APC) at airports, and the integration of advanced technology for faster, more convenient processing.
