Another Tough Weekend for the RSLPF

It was a long and hard weekend for the men and women of the Royal St. Luica Police Force (RSLPF) as multiple incidents were reported particularly in the north of the island.

As part of its remedial response to incidents of robbery and stealing from individuals in the Gros Islet/Rodney Bay areas, the Gros Islet Police Station engaged in a coordinated police operation within the Gros Islet district between Friday, October 3, and Saturday, October 4, 2025.

During the operation, a 36-year-old male, Jemeil Junior Simpson, a Jamaican national residing on Dauphin Street, Gros Islet, was arrested. At the time of his arrest, Simpson was found in possession of one .380 Glock 25 pistol containing two rounds of ammunition. Simpson is reportedly not a holder of a firearm license.

On Monday, October 6, 2025, Jemeil Junior Simpson was charged with the offences of possession of a firearm without a valid license or permit, and possession of ammunition without a valid license or permit. He is scheduled to appear before the First District Court for arraignment.

On Saturday, October 4, 2025, at about 2:45 a.m., the Dennery Police Station received an anonymous call reporting gunshots at Trou A’Leau, Dennery. Teams from the Dennery and Richfond Police Stations responded to the call.

Upon arrival, officers reported discoverinf the apparent lifeless body of a male in a drain at Trou A’Leau, Dennery.

The deceased was later identified as Jay Collymore, 24 years old, of Over-the-Bridge, Dennery. Investigators observed apparent gunshot injuries to the body. A medical practitioner pronounced Collymore dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.

The Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation.

Later that morning (October 4) at about 6:00 a.m., the Dennery Police Station received a report of a serious road traffic collision along Fregate Road, Dennery.

Police officers responded and discovered several persons sitting and lying along the roadway. Officers from the Saint Lucia Fire Service were already on the scene attending to the injured.

The collision involved a motor SUV and a fifteen-seater public service minibus. Both vehicles sustained extensive front-end damage.

Collaboration between the Fire Service and the Police ensured that all injured persons received immediate medical care on scene and were subsequently transported to the St. Jude Hospital for advanced treatment.

No lives were lost as a result of this collision.

At about 1:07 p.m., officers attached to the Babonneau Police Station were travelling along the Cacoa, Babonneau road aboard a marked police vehicle when they encountered a male individual who threw rocks at the police vehicle, causing some damage.

The individual was identified as Antonius, also known as “Kartel,” of Gesneau, Babonneau. “Kartel” is reportedly an outpatient of the Mental Wellness Centre.

Recognizing the risk the individual posed to the community, officers attempted to restrain him for conveyance to the Mental Wellness Centre for care. During the process, the police discharged a weapon, resulting in a non-fatal injury to the patient.

An ambulance was summoned, and the patient was made comfortable and transported to the OKEU (European Union) Hospital for advanced care, where he remains in stable condition.

On Sunday, October 5, 2025, at about 8:10 a.m., the Gros Islet Police Station received information of a shooting at Morne Serpent, Gros Islet.

Officers from the Gros Islet Police Station, supported by other police units, responded and discovered the apparent lifeless body of a male lying on a concrete pavement at Morne Serpent.

The victim was subsequently identified as 35-year-old Neil Peter of Morne Serpent. The body displayed apparent gunshot injuries. A medical practitioner pronounced Peter deceased at the scene. A post-mortem examination has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.
