The Government of Saint Lucia has secured EC$5.8 million in grant funding from the Republic of China (Taiwan) to boost two major social development initiatives targeting vulnerable individuals and families.

The grant was officially handed over during the First 2026 Bilateral Cooperation Grant Handover Ceremony, on Monday, July 13, at the Prime Minister’s Office.

The bulk of the funding—EC$4.8 million—was allocated for the People Empowerment Through Healthy and Equipped Lives project to improve the well-being of vulnerable and underserved groups through health promotion programmes, livelihood support, youth interventions and initiatives to enhance living conditions.

An additional EC$1 million has been provided for the Holistic Opportunities for People Empowerment (HOPE) programme, which will strengthen employability and economic independence by providing career guidance, vocational training, apprenticeships and job placement opportunities for vulnerable persons.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Philip J Pierre thanked Taiwan for their continued support, noting that the projects align with government’s commitment to creating opportunities, expanding social protection and ensuring that development reaches those who need it most.

Taiwan’s Resident Ambassador to Saint Lucia, H.E. Nicole Su, reaffirmed Taiwan’s commitment to collaborating with the government in advancing projects that create greater opportunities for people.

The grant marks the latest milestone in a longstanding partnership between Saint Lucia and Taiwan, spanning key sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and youth empowerment.
