Marcella Johnson, the United Workers Party (UWP) Candidate for Gros Islet, has taken a firm stand against the recent imposition of two “No Right Turn” signs along the Gros Islet Highway at the intersection with the Corinth back-road.
This intersection is a vital artery for commuters desperately trying to navigate the ongoing traffic nightmare.
Johnson has highlighted that, on Wednesday, October 1, motorists and commuters were caught completely off guard by the controversial signs, which have sparked outrage throughout the community.
Johnson stated, “This development is nonsensical and raises serious questions about what is happening in this country. Imposing a No Right Turn sign here will undoubtedly exacerbate traffic congestion.”
She further pointed out, “These signs were implemented without any consultation or public awareness, adding unnecessary frustration for commuters who already spend hours in traffic every day.”

Johnson is demanding an immediate recall of the signs pending due process. “I cannot fathom how the current MP allowed this measure to be enforced without any engagement with the public, particularly minibus drivers and all motorists. This authority is governing in the wrong way and is clearly not prioritizing the needs of the people. There must be an immediate recall of this No Right Turn sign, accompanied by genuine consultation.”
Moreover, Johnson asserts, “This situation highlights a deeper issue of traffic congestion on the Castries/Gros Islet Highway, which unfortunately shows no concern from the SLP Administration.”
According to her, the chaos faced by the public is a direct consequence of the SLP’s failure to complete the Rodney Bay Road Project.
Johnson reiterated the UWP’s commitment, stating that as the next government, they will prioritize the immediate completion of the highway redevelopment and enhance the back roads of the northern route.
Meanwhile , Johnson is set to host a motorcade , on Monday, to re-energize and vigorously promote her campaign.
